FH: CW announces 2023 Field Hockey schedule

A new season gets underway Sept. 9

June 14, 2023 – Will Victoria’s dynasty continue, or can a new challenger topple the four-time champs?

That’s the biggest question surrounding the upcoming Canada West field hockey season, set to begin in early September.

The University of Victoria Vikes have won the last four Canada West titles.

Even more impressive, they’ve also claimed the last four U SPORTS national championships, too.

While the Vikes look to extend their reign on top, the Calgary Dinos and UBC Thunderbirds enter a new season eager to dethrone the defending champs.

The three team, seven-week battle to decide the Canada West field hockey champion will begin Sept. 9 and 10, with the Thunderbirds and Dinos clashing for a pair of games in Calgary.

Victoria will open their title defence the following weekend in Calgary, taking on the Dinos Sept. 16 and 17.

Each team plays eight regular season games, facing each opponent four times.

The regular season standings decide the Canada West victor, meaning every game matters.

The Canada West champion will advance to this year’s U SPORTS national championships in early November. The best-of-three series will be hosted by the champions from Ontario University Athletics (OUA).
